We were disappointed to read a letter to the editor critical of the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina for offering the well-known and critically acclaimed musical "Chicago."
The writers advised the arts center to "clean up its act" as the production, in their judgment, was not appropriate for their children. To blame the arts center for offering the production is deflection. Parents have the responsibility to assess any content their children may view, from books to television to the Internet. One would think parents would research the content for suitability for their children before taking them to the performance.
Anger directed at the arts center not only is an admission that they did not exercise their responsibility, but also, by implication, exhibits ignorance of what the arts center does for the culture of the community and the arts for adults, as well as youth.
