1st District contenders should air views locally

Where are our congressional candidates for our new district?

I have called and written to Republican Rep. Tim Scott to find out when he is going to debate Democrat Bobbie Rose in our area. We should not go to the polls Nov. 6 to vote for our representative without having the opportunity to hear their views and how they will represent us. Both candidates have been here for political rallies and fundraisers, but they have never addressed the general public on their views. I shouldn't have to go to a party meeting to meet a candidate.

I want to know their views on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, health care reforms, the military and especially how they would deal with our returning veterans, taxes, job creation and other areas the community wishes to hear about.

I would suggest that the media and the League of Women Voters get together and arrange one major debate. I understand that there is a debate planned for Charleston, but we deserve the same consideration. We are part of this newly drawn district and have no incumbent congressman.

It is important that we have know-ledgeable voters.
