Obama stands up, fights for many of us

Does President Barack Obama deserve a second term? Republicans say "no," but they never gave him a chance during his first term.

Sen. Mitch McConnell declared that denying the president a second term was the GOP's top priority. Sen. Jim DeMint hoped health care reform would fail so it would be Obama's "Waterloo." Rush Limbaugh said, "I hope he fails." Republicans did not want to govern; they just wanted to get rid of Obama.

But I say "yes." We need him, all of us in the 47 percent. I am one of them. I get Social Security and Medicare and do not want these to be privatized. My late husbands and I worked and paid into these funds. Look what happened about four years ago to 401(k) accounts.

Give Obama a chance in his second term to show that it is not just "hope and change" any more; it is also "stand up and fight," with or without Republicans, for all our rights as people of a great democracy. Women, children, teachers, veterans, union and non-union workers, the elderly, the poor, the hungry and the disabled, we all make up America, not just corporations and rich people.

Too few in Beaufort County obeying the ‘smaller’ rules

What is it about people who have grown up in the Beaufort area, as well as those who have moved here from other areas of the country, that they feel the rules do not apply to them or they do not need to be enforced?
