A recent letter writer raised an important question relating to the general content of the letters, especially over the past six months with the approaching election.
Her point was well taken regarding the totally negative content of many letters. I would go further and say that some of them are beyond positive political comment and border on rude and even vulgar content.
She questions whether such writing give the wrong impression to visitors who are our bread and butter throughout the year. The answer is yes. I have personally encountered visitors who have asked whether some of the comments were real or some form of sick joke; others simply tell me that they never expected to see such hate and discourse in such a beautiful place as Hilton Head Island. I am not talking about one or two, but as many as 20 or more, over the past few weeks.
Surely, supporters of any political party can make a serious comment without behaving like an angry mob intent on winning at whatever cost.

What happened to the virtue of opinion and fair debate. That was certainly the creed of the Founding Fathers of this great nation. Thank goodness it will all be over in the very near future, and we can return to sanity.
