Questions will answer concerns about scams

With regard to two recent letters from readers who complained they were "scammed" by young men claiming to be their grandsons, I would like to offer a solution to anyone who receives such a phone call.

When a young man called me saying he was my grandson and that he was in trouble and calling from Canada, I did not believe him. He pleaded with me not to tell his parents what had happened. I proceeded to ask him his full name, where he lived and what college he was attending.

He could not answer those questions and hung up. End of story.
