This is an open letter to the residents of most of Beaufort County.
If re-elected in November, Congressman Tim Scott will be our representative in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013. While most of us can agree that we have been well represented by Rep. Joe Wilson for a number of years, 2012 redistricting has changed the landscape.
Whether Democrat, Republican or independent, if you have not had the opportunity to hear Scott speak or to review his voting record in his first year in Congress, I strongly suggest, when opportune, that you listen to what he believes in and what he has to say. Frankly, this gentleman is a great deal more than someone who intends to just "go along to get along."
While it might be difficult for many on the left to vote for any Republican, they might very well learn that Scott is more than just another politician who will succumb to the wills of the D.C. establishment, including not always voting with the Republican majority in the House. That requires both character and courage.
To those of you who may not be aware, Scott is black. If there was ever a person who should be held up as a role model for those who have struggled to find equality in America, I personally cannot find a better example.
