A war on women is on. The parade of legislation proposed in the last few years that assaults women's health and freedom is staggering.
From Alaska to Rhode Island, family planning and abortion services are threatened. Doctors performing such services would be made criminals. Even cancer screenings, under the umbrella of funding for women's health-related and family planning services, are under attack. Republican candidates stand firm on this issue: Mitt Romney would eliminate Title X family planning money and repeal Roe v. Wade; Newt Gingrich voted to eliminate Title X funding, and voted anti-choice 72 times; Rick Santorum voted anti-choice 72 times and would repeal all funding for contraception; Ron Paul voted anti-choice 93 times and sought to eliminate family planning funding.
A,B,C: Abortion out the window; birth control out the window; choice out the window. Cancer screenings, on your own dime.
In other words, women's health, out the window; women's rights out the window. Our bodies are our lives, and these men would control them. Women would become reproductive slaves, dying under a back-alley knife. What's next? Our right to education? To own property? To vote? Where will they draw the line?
The Republican Party says it wants government out of our lives, but apparently not out of our most private decisions. If you are planning to vote Republican, you should buy your burkha now. The need for them in the near future will drive the price sky-high. Unregulated marketplace, you know.
