As we all know, Hilton Head Island is quite conservative. And so it is not surprising that most letters to the editor reflect a conservative outlook. One such recent letter was especially good. It was well written and covered just about every conceivable criticism of President Barack Obama and his liberal agenda. It was good and it was complete.
The problem is that this otherwise fine letter contained nothing new. It all had been said many times before. Not a few times, but many, many times. Even considering that some things bear repeating, it seems evident that our conservative neighbors need new material. The repetition is just getting old. Old, certainly for liberal leaning readers, but probably even for conservatives. New stuff is needed.
For example, why isn't Obama being held accountable for the kudzu problem on Hilton Head and elsewhere? It's a serious creeping problem, much as socialism is a creeping attack on individual responsibility. It's an insidious menace mostly in the South, where conservative family values are most evident and where liberalism is most challenged. It's a war conservatives are losing through default. New and bold leadership is needed to turn the tide and save our children, if not our country.
Also, if progress is made in this way, the letters to the editor will be a lot better.
