A letter writer on Feb. 10 claimed to speak for Catholics, Protestants and Jewish neighbors. He claims to be Catholic while denouncing bishops' and biblical teachings regarding birth control and abortion. Citing that 42 percent of unplanned pregnancies were aborted is not a legitimate argument for birth control. Sexual relations are meant for marriage and not as a toy for casual amusement.
To substitute one's own judgment for the Catholic Bishop's Conference appears to be anti-Catholic. Excusing oneself from the precepts of the church while pointing to others doing the same is rationalization that will not salve the conscience.
