Denominations differ on ordaining gays

Your paper recently ran an Associated Press story titled "Presbyterian church ordains gay minister."

To set the record straight, there are many Presbyterian denominations. Only the PC (USA), the largest, is now ordaining homosexuals. Several Hilton Head Island and Bluffton churches are members of this denomination. During in the last 50 years, the PC (USA) rejected long-held Presbyterian beliefs. The PC (USA) has departed from the belief that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. It has also forsaken the belief that people are saved from their sins only by faith in Jesus Christ, our savior and Lord. This is not true of all Presbyterians.

Two local Presbyterian Churches are not PC (USA): Hilton Head Presbyterian Church, (PCA) and Trinity Church, (EPC or Evangelical Presbyterian Church), the second and third largest denominations of Presbyterians. We are all sinners and need God's forgiveness. Please know that the EPC will never ordain people who live in open, defiant, unconfronted, unconfessed, unrepented, unforgiven sinfulness of any kind. And the leaders of our churches (pastors, elders and deacons) should be faithful, confessed, repented and forgiven for their sins in order to counsel and represent those who are welcome to attend and be part of the body of Christ, but have chosen to live otherwise.

It would be more accurate to say, "Presbyterians from the PC (USA) ordain gay minister."
