Supporting protesters means supporting goals

From newspaper and television reports, we learn that top Democrats are praising and expressing support for the Occupy Wall Street rabble. In the Oct. 13 Island Packet, George Will's column enumerated some of this group's demands, as follows:

  • A guaranteed living wage regardless of employment.
  • $20 an hour minimum wage. (The United Auto Workers negotiated $14 to $16 an hour for entry-level workers with General Motors.)
  • Totally open borders.
  • $1 trillion for infrastructure, $1 trillion for "ecological restoration."
  • Free college education.
  • Forgiveness of all debt on the entire planet.
  • In addition to these off-the-wall demands, we have the following tactics from this group:

  • Defecating on police cars.
  • Open use of illegal drugs.
  • Female protesters parading around topless.
  • Illegal occupation of the Brooklyn Bridge.
  • With President Barack Obama and company praising and supporting the Occupy Wall Streeters' demands and tactics, the saying "birds of a feather flock together" comes to mind. Can you support a group without agreeing with their agenda and tactics? I don't think so. Hopefully, next November will show that the Democratic Party is hopelessly out of touch with the majority of the American public.
