Ida Martin's receiving the Presidential Citizens Medal is a tribute not only to her, but also to this generous community.
In the beginning and continuing today, Bluffton Self Help has been supported by the town of Bluffton, related nonprofit agencies, such as Deep Well on Hilton Head Island, local foundations, grants and the United Way of the Lowcountry. The partnerships with service organizations that assist the clients we all serve also helped grow Ida Martin's efforts to support her neighbors in need.
Bluffton Self Help would not be where it is today if it weren't for the generosity of this community that made it possible, most recently, to purchase a larger facility and move Bluffton Self Help to the next level.
In reading about the other 12 recipients, we are amazed by the gifts her fellow honorees have bestowed on their communities and the world. It will indeed be a humbling experience, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for this honor.
When Ida Martin stands in front of the nation to accept this medal, she does it for each and every one of you.
