Airline service a boon for Hilton Head residents

Kudos to the Sept. 13 letter writer, who explained why it is necessary to keep commercial flights at Hilton Head Island Airport.

I live at The Cypress of Hilton Head Island, a continuing care community, and would be very unhappy if the Hilton Head airport no longer handled commercial flights. If it became necessary for me to fly from the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, it would not only be inconvenient but expensive. It would necessitate my hiring a driver at $75 for a single trip to the airport and another $75 upon my return trip.

When I fly from Hilton Head, on the other hand, one of the Cypress drivers picks me up at my apartment, handles my baggage until it is deposited at the airport, drives me there and makes sure that my departure is easy. On my return trip, weary from the flight, it is a joyful sight to be greeted by one of the Cypress drivers, who then returns me to my apartment with my baggage, even placing it on my bed so I can unpack easily.

I was delighted to read that the trees are finally being trimmed to make this airport safer for commercial flights.
