Employee ownership key to improving workplace

It was irritating to read and hear nothing on Labor Day except that our nation needs a "jobs" policy that honors labor, as well as capitalists. While not large in number, there are companies in the U.S. that honor employees, or workers if you please, by making employees owners through an employee stock ownership plan, or ESOP.

For the past 35 years, solid evidence proves that the vast majority of ESOP companies have outperformed non-ESOP companies, provided locally controlled jobs, and through ownership, built up retirement savings much larger than other employer-sponsored retirement savings programs.

When will our national leaders and national media wake up and see that expanding employee ownership in a clear-cut way will make employees capital owners and make U.S. companies better places to work and more competitive in our global economy?
