Let's agree to disagree in more respectful way

The Island Packet's report of the Tea Party Express rally in Bluffton exemplified the growing frustration of our residents here, as well as across the country.

We are indeed fortunate to live in a nation that allows -- and encourages -- freedom of speech. But with that freedom we should expect -- and demand -- respect for those with whom we disagree.

It is absolutely disgraceful that those at the rally cheered a person wearing a T-shirt celebrating U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's "you lie" remark. Wilson should be ashamed of his rude and disrespectful behavior, and we should implore him -- and all others -- to accept in a civil manner all differences of opinion.
