Perhaps a recent letter writer believes 120 minutes to catch a flight at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport is "just a few minutes away," but as a Hilton Head Island resident whose husband travels by air at least once a month, I take issue with the writer's presumption that commercial air service is not needed on our island.
Why should we airline-paying customers have to leave our homes on Hilton Head more than two hours ahead of a scheduled flight when we can be serviced at our local airport in less than half that time?
When we bought our first property on Hilton Head in 1985, one of our criteria was that we could get to the island by air.
I sincerely hope that those of us who choose to fly commercially out of Hilton Head Island Airport are not included in the "handful of folks who are hurt or killed" because trees were not properly trimmed or removed.
