Local air traffic control didn't halt beach flyover

I think I speak for everyone who was on the beach July 4 waiting in vain for the Air Force fighter jets to show up. We were all terribly disappointed. I'm not sure who botched this operation, but it sure wasn't air traffic control at Hilton Head Island Airport.

The Air Force never notified the air-traffic control facilities at Hilton Head. The only notice we had of this pending operation came from The Island Packet. The only call we had from the aircraft was when they reported that they had passed the south end of the island. Obviously, they were looking at the wrong island.

The Air Force public affairs office should just admit they blew it instead of trying to pass the blame onto air traffic control.
