Libraries too important to reduce their budget

Friends and neighbors of Beaufort County, our libraries are among the most precious resources of our community.

Libraries are devoted and dedicated to the highest cultural and human values and provide knowledge and wisdom for all of our citizens and even for visitors to our area.

Some might argue that the old traditional library is passè. That progressive computerization has rendered the library obsolete.

Nothing could be further from the truth. In our libraries, personal attention is given to the needs of children, adolescents and adults.

The library has a great computer base, larger than what most people have personally. But first and foremost, it provides human resources (librarians), who can assist people greatly in their studies of literature, poetry, history, philosophy, theology -- in all of the subjects of arts and science.

Recently, the libraries' budget has been seriously reduced.

The number of personal and the hours of operation have been seriously curtailed. Let's put first things first.
