Tap local expertise on economic planning

The May 19 story about the decision of Beaufort County's economic development task force to recommend hiring a consulting firm to assist them caught my attention.

I have been involved with marketing research for more than 50 years but had never heard of AngelouEconomics of Austin, Texas.

I turned to Google, and there were various paragraphs and ads, plus comments from users of this company's services. I strongly suggest that the task force, as well as County Council members (the public, too) do the same. In particular, the observations from a writer from Lexington, Ky., about his city's study were enlightening, as well as perceptive.

I hope the task force will take advantage of the many working and retired marketing decision-makers who reside in Beaufort County. Perhaps county officials should invite this type of experienced person to attend an open, round-table discussion to exchange ideas and suggestions with the task force. These people would understand our area and be interested in its future.
