Summer heat can be deadly for area homeless

With summer approaching, we will soon be experiencing very hot days and nights.

For most, that means turning up the air-conditioning. For the homeless people in our community, that is not an option. In recent summers, four homeless men on Hilton Head Island have died from extreme heat and dehydration. The Homelessness Task Force, part of the Hunger and Homeless Coalition, is seeking a building or structure for use as a temporary shelter, only on nights of extreme temperature, until a permanent shelter is available.

If you can help or have any ideas or suggestions, please email me at homelesstaskforce@aol.com or go to our website, hungerandhomelesscoalition.org. Thank you.
