Personal responsibility should trump handouts

Republicans are evil and exist to help the rich get even richer.

President Barack Obama will save us from toil and trouble because he has -- a magic wand?

It's time to be serious. Our leaders are men and women who will give us whatever we want if it will get them elected. Remember that the skills necessary to win votes are not the same as those necessary for good governance. Good governance comes from the selective power of our vote.

Our desire for someone else to pay for our goodies needs to come to a halt because there is nobody left to pay our bills for us. It's time to go back to the old concept of paying for what we get. As a bonus, reinstate the worn-out ideas of personal liberty and personal responsibility. I'm not talking about some cool hand Luke in the White House allowing me a measure of leeway from governmental dictates. I'm thinking more in the nature of "unalienable rights" as mentioned by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence.

Our experiments with New Deals, Great Societies and Transformational Changes are bankrupting us, while our individual freedom and our ability to prosper is being legislated away. It's time for us to stop panhandling, and for good measure, let's fire local politicians who give our dwindling incomes to their business cronies. By the way, the biblical injunction to give away 10 percent is still God's good idea.
