Obama earns respect for his accomplishments

Do I need President Barack Obama's birth certificate to know whether I can respect him?

Spare us all from those who live lives of such trivial concerns. Obama is an honest, intelligent man, who deserves everyone's respect. He works hard as president and has had to deal with vicious and unwarranted attacks from many Republicans. He has kept his cool and has produced many fine and needed changes.

Here are some of the things Obama has done: Instituted enforcement for equal pay for women; begun the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq; put limits on lobbyists' access to the White House; limited White House aides working for lobbyists after their tenure in the administration; phased out the F-22 fighter plane and other outdated weapons systems; removed restrictions on embryonic stem-cell research; provided new funds for school construction; enacted the $789 billion economic stimulus plan.

He cut the missile defense program by $1.4 billion; restarted nuclear nonproliferation talks; re-engaged in talks on global warming and greenhouse gas emissions; provided tax write-offs for those buying hybrid automobiles; expanded vaccination programs; expanded the program to cover health care for 4 million more children; closed offshore tax havens; negotiated a deal with Swiss banks to permit the U.S. government to gain access to records of tax evaders; lowered drug costs for seniors; improved conditions for the military; increased student loans; ended the previous policy of awarding no-bid defense contracts; and 65 other changes.
