Policies must reduce reliance on foreign oil

President Barack Obama shows no leadership or concern about the energy crisis that exists today in America. He's more concerned about running for re-election.

In 1977, the Department of Energy was formed under President JimmyCarter. Its main objective was to find useful ways to make the United States less dependent on foreign oil. But in 2011, we are more dependent on foreign oil than ever before.

Where is the leadership? The Department of Energy, Congress and President Barack Obama clearly are asleep at the wheel and not solving problems as they come up.

According to Energy Information, we have inside our borders enough oil to maintain the U.S. until new avenues of energy are developed. Why are we still postponing drilling? Why are we not extracting our oil now?

Environmentalist groups and the Obama administration have persistently blocked all efforts to help the American people become less dependent on foreign oil. We are allowing a small group of people to dictate our lives and our economy against our will.

We must start drilling and let production increase at once on U.S. soil. Failure is not an option. We need to keep the president and Congress on probation until they get us free from our dependence on foreign oil.

The American people are ready to go back to the polls in 2012. We are ready, willing and able to make whatever changes are required to carry out the will of the people.
