The rhetoric is pro-business development, but is the will really behind it? Are we fair-weather business supporters? Or should I say, will we only want industrial development until the retirees begin returning to our real estate market?
Can a business strategy be based on plant and equipment and not work force and revenue? Can giving away Beaufort Commercial Park land overcome the real issues involved in locating a light industrial business? Or should we wait until the economic engines of Savannah and Charleston float or fly down to Beaufort?
Can a town whose populace found parking kiosks so complicated that they ran screaming from downtown really be ready to develop a plan to anticipate infrastructure needs? Can it attract pinpointed, preferred businesses? Or streamline and open up permitting and make the tradeoffs real change requires?
You tell me.
