Recently, Peggy Arrington, former chairman of the Hilton Head Island Symphony Orchestra board, responded to a column about the orchestra published in the Feb. 5 Packet.
She said that members of the "Save Our Orchestra" coordinating committee, who oppose the board's decision to terminate Mary Woodmansee Green, were out of touch and part of a small minority. We beg to differ.
We were part of the 600 who signed and circulated the petitions to keep Green last autumn. We are donors and ticket-holders, along with many others. We feel that the orchestra board's response to us has been dismissive and frankly demeaning. We are beginning to think it is the orchestra board who is out of touch with its supporters.
In that vein, we simply want the board to understand that there are a few more who will not be making a contribution next year or buying season tickets.
