I was very disappointed to read the column in Saturday's Packet that criticized the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra board for not being forthcoming on finances and other issues of concern to donors and subscribers.
There have been numerous attempts by board leaders and other supporters to clarify the board's position, resulting in a majority of the major donors (95 percent at least) being strong supporters of the recommended change in music director. Members of the "Save our Orchestra" coordinating committee are sadly out of touch and in a definite minority. Their threat to withdraw their support for the orchestra reveals an agenda aimed at damaging the orchestra. Nevertheless, many of our supporters and donors have promised to make up any shortfall in revenue should that occur, in order to ensure we continue to present excellent music on the island.
