I would like to thank all of those who had a part in my winning the election for Beaufort County treasurer. I would like to especially thank the editors and staffs of the Gazette and the Packet for their insight and coverage of the issues in this campaign. You have performed a service to the voters of this county by actively pursuing the underlying causes of the problems associated with this office. You are to be congratulated.
I also would like to sincerely thank all of those who contributed time, money or talent to our campaign. More than 100 volunteers worked in the heat of May, June and July to obtain petition signatures. The campaign committee, led by the best "unpaid" campaign manager in the state, Charlie Mitchell, and our marketing committee, led by Lynne Peer, did a remarkable job and we can never adequately thank them for their efforts.
I would like to thank my wife, Lindel, who has been the rock I cling to, my biggest fan and has stood beside me for almost 48 years. Thank you for supporting me, encouraging me and being there for me when I had doubts. For all the times you had to take second place, without complaint, because I needed to attend a meet-and-greet event or speak at a function, thank you.
To everyone who voted for me and those who did not, I promise that my goal is to make this office one you can point to with pride.
