Don't close highway for the annual parade

It's going to happen again this year. At 8:30 a.m. Nov. 13, Beaufort County is going to once again allow the only road off of St. Helena Island to be closed for more than an hour. How is this so?

For an hour or more, no one can leave the island because the Heritage Days parade is more important than people's livelihood? The only route off the island will be closed from St. Helena Elementary School to Frogmore.

The county will have signs up for a few days before that to tell everyone, but if I need or want to leave my home to go to town during that time, I can't. I don't understand why we aren't busting the door down at the County Council and demanding that this stop. We have put up with it year after year. When is it time to demand that it change? Am I the only one who feels this way?
