As a Marine, Miller should understand loyalty

It is disappointing Democratic candidate Rob Miller feels it necessary to bash Rep. Joe Wilson's official trips overseas in support of our troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan and honoring the soldiers who gave their lives for us in European wars. His travel is totally appropriate and shows how deeply he cares about our troops and foreign defense commitments, past and present. Those trips are part of his job; they are not vacations, as Miller argues. Why doesn't Miller question House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's $2.1 million in travel expenses in 2009-10, including $101,429 for food and alcohol and 85 trips to San Francisco at taxpayer expense on Air Force aircraft? Every few weeks the Packet lists the names and ranks of those brave Marine Corps men and women who have graduated from basic taining. I carefully read the name and rank of each stranger who has been trained to go to war to defend our freedoms and our way of life; these are thoughtful moments. I think of the Marine Corps motto, "Semper Fidelis." A Marine is a Marine not only in war, but also for life. I am shocked that Miller would let himself be bought and paid for by Gen. David Petraeus-bashing MoveOn.org's hundreds of thousands in campaign dollars, provided by George Soros and other radical left-wing, anti- military donors. It makes one wonder. What is it about "Semper Fi" that Miller does not understand? Sue Brooks Hilton Head Island
