My husband and I attended the Lt. Dan Band concert at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in Beaufort. While waiting for the show, we engaged in friendly conversation with a couple. It was the type of pleasant encounter you have with people with whom you share proximity.
However, the pleasant chat was interrupted by an intoxicated woman who had been listening to us, upset because we dared to voice a negative opinion on the state of the economy under the current administration.
She said she is a newcomer to the area and is building a house on Fripp Island. Good for her. All of us she interrupted are transplants, too. She also said she is a Washington, D.C., insider and called us "stupid, unpatriotic Republican hicks" for not supporting the president.
So, here is our message to you, darlin':We are friendly, gracious and welcoming here, and we mind our manners. If you want to be a good neighbor, please don't butt in, accuse, swear and call names. It's a small community and its people have long memories.
If you want to eavesdrop, don't make a fool of yourself. Don't drink in public. We felt embarrassed for you
If you believe that we are "stupid, unpatriotic, Republican hicks," why do you want to live among us?
Sounds like you and D.C. have a beautiful relationship, bless your heart. Maybe you'd be more comfortable staying there.
