In light of recent events with the mistreatment of dogs in two separate locations on Hilton Head Island, I have met my breaking point.
It is long overdue to overhaul how we define animal cruelty, punish those guilty of it, and enforce any new laws.
I have read the laws in their current form and it is a depressing read. Not to mention that these old laws were passed in 1999.
I have set up a petition on change.org under the heading “Stricter laws and definitions of animal abuse in South Carolina.” I have also created a page on Facebook called “Revise SC Animal Cruelty Laws” that is an open page for the purpose of easily sharing the link to the petition.
This petition will require many, many signatures considering our state population exceeds 5 million people. I encourage anyone with an affinity for animals to please sign the petition and share it. There is much work that needs to be done and I really need your help. As humans, we carry the obligation to defend animals that cannot defend themselves.
