Rest assured that Hilton Head Island’s most beloved big guy, Harley, the resident Clydesdale at Lawton Stables, is safe and sound.

Haley Zimmerman, general manager of Hilton Head Island’s Lawton Stables located within the gates of Sea Pines, took the reins early and got all of the animals off the island by 6 a.m. Oct. 5.

Zimmerman said staff started first thing Tuesday morning to get Harley, the trail horses and all of the small farm animals loaded.

“We were concerned about how the small farm animals would react because all they know is the farm,” Zimmerman said on Thursday from Midway, Ga. “We had some really big guys help and they basically just picked up the animals and put them on board (trailer). It went surprisingly well. It felt like we were placing the animals on an ark.”
