The exit on I-95 North onto I-26 that heads into to Columbia has been blocked off by emergency crews, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
“We wanted to avoid the exit to I-26 becoming a huge backup,” said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller of the Highway Patrol. “That’s happened in evacuations before.”
Miller said that drivers on I-95 North traveling to Columbia will be able to take the I-20 exit to get to the city.

S.C. Highway Patrol does not know when the exit is likely to reopen but will continue to reassess the traffic flow.
Lance Cpl. Matt Southern confirmed Thursday afternoon that all interchanges between the two highway will be closed as long at the Highway Patrol deems it necessary. He suggested heading to I-95 from U.S. 21 or continuing on I-95 to U.S. 378 to get to the Columbia area instead of using I-26 to get out of the Beaufort County area.
