Has there ever been an instance when they called off an evacuation because the storm slowed or shifted?

The storm’s direction can shift slightly east and slightly west repeatedly before it passes over or by an area. For regular updates of where the storm is, click here.

When the governor calls for an evacuation, it stays in effect until the storm passes South Carolina, according to Capt. Bob Bromage with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
