Beaufort County is under a coastal flood advisory until 11 a.m., the National Weather Service in Charleston reports. They have also issued a hazardous weather outlook in connection with dense fog that has beset the area Sunday morning.
High tides, spurred by the effects of a full moon, could bring flooding to low lying coastal areas, making some roads impassable and bringing minor flooding to properties.
High tides on Hilton Head Island struck between 8:23 and 8:56 am, but flooding is possible up to two hours after tides reach their peak accoording to the weather service advisory. High tide in Beaufort is at 9:23 a.m.
Coastal flooding might remain a possibility during high tides through Saturday according to the weather service’s outlook, and additional flood advisories might be needed later in the week.
Meanwhile, this morning’s dense fog will likely return this evening, according to the weather service’s hazardous weather outlook, primarily becoming an issue in the early morning hours of Monday around 1 a.m. and persisting until 10 a.m.
“There’s a lot of moisture in the air, and as we get into the fall season temperatures cool down. When you have the cooler temperatures and all that moisture and it meets the dew point temperature it forms fog,” said weather service meteorologist Michael Stroz.
We might have to deal with foggy mornings and evenings for the next few days, according to Stroz, but by the middle of the week a cold front is expected to push through the area, taking the fog with it.
As that cold front moves through, fog will be replaced by chances of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, then conditions should clear up through the back half of the week.
High temperatures in the high 70s to low 80s should give way to highs in the 60s by mid-week.
Humidity should see highs nearing or at 100 percent several times in the coming week in the evening and early morning hours. Mid afternoon lows should be in the low 50s to low 60s.
