Shooting outside Sumter convenience store leaves one in critical condition

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating suspects in the shooting of two men early Saturday morning that left one in critical condition.

Deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office went to Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter just after midnight after two shooting victims were transferred there, according to a news release. The shooting occurred as the two victims stood in a parking lot outside a convenience store in the 200 block of East Red Bay Road.

According to witness statements, the suspects fired from inside a vehicle, described as a black Cadillac, and quickly left the scene after the incident, the news release said. A black Cadillac believed to be driven by the suspects was found abandoned early Saturday morning by officers with the Sumter Police Department outside a business in the 200 block of East Newberry Street.

Investigators have reason to believe there were multiple shooters involved in the incident.

One of the victims was transported to a Columbia area hospital, where he was in critical condition Saturday, the news release said.

Anyone with information should call the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 436-2775 or CrimeStoppers at (803) 436-2718.
