Four would-be robbers were thwarted by a security guard at a Richland County business Friday morning.
Steven Johnson, 24, Tashon Hurell, 25, Russell Pringle, 19, and Steven Coffee, 25, were all charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, said Sheriff Leon Lott in a statement released Friday.
Just before 2 a.m., the four attempted to rob customers and employees at The Whiskey Tavern, at 200 Zimalcrest Drive, near Bush River Road and I-26. A security guard at the business spotted a suspicious vehicle behind the business then watched two of the suspects put on masks as they exited the vehicle, Lott said.
The security guard identified himself and the two men fled on foot while the two in the vehicle stayed behind and were arrested by deputies. Additional deputies nearby received a description of the suspects and arrested both men a short distance away from the business, Lott said. The deputies also recovered two handguns.
