School board candidate endorsed by former S.C. superintendent

Former S.C. Superintendent of Education Barbara Nielsen has endorsed Bill Evans for the District 7 seat on the Beaufort County Board of Education, according to a Monday news release from Evans.

Nielsen, a Republican who now lives in Bluffton, served two, four-year terms as state superintendent.

Nielsen said in the news release she has known Evans for more than 25 years and has "firsthand knowledge of his strong leadership; his grasp of important education issues; and his strong commitment of working to bring excellence to the students, parents and community members of Beaufort County."

Evans, a retired high school principal and district administrator, is running against Robert White, also a retired educator, for the Lady's Island seat.
