Police investigate drowning deaths of 2 children in Savannah home

Staff reports

Savannah detectives are investigating the drowning deaths of two young children at a home in the city.

The mother of the 8-month and 18-month-old children called 911 just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to report she had drowned them in her home on the 600 block of West 59th Street, according to a statement by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.

Police went to the home and began performing CPR on the children, but they were pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center, the department said.

The caller, identified as Jokeera Morgan, 26, has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder. Morgan has two other children who were not in the home during the incident.

Savannah police continue to investigate, along with the local Division of Family and Children Services and the Chatham County District Attorney's Office.
