The new Back River Bridge is about 83 percent completed, but environmental problems have driven the cost up by $2 million, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The Savannah Morning News reports that officials said they will shift traffic onto the new bridge by late spring or early summer. Then the old bridge will be torn down. The contractor will keep the materials from the old bridge.
