Deputies on lookout for man who stole truck, abandoned it near Sun City

A man who led officers on a chase from Hardeeville to Sun City in a stolen truck on Thursday remains at large, according to Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward.

The suspect stole a pickup truck near Sunset Circle on Thursday morning, Woodward said. Officers spotted the vehicle off McTeer and Hare streets about 5:45 p.m., and pursued it down U.S. 278 toward Bluffton, Woodward said.

The man pulled over and ran into the woods near Sun City, and was not located by Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputies and K-9 officers.

The suspect was described in a Sheriff's Office news release as a black male, about 5-foot-10-inches tall, with a slim build, last seen wearing dark clothing.
