A Bluffton man was pronounced dead at the scene of a Monday morning crash on S.C. 170.
Alan Tyson Roberts, 73, died around 10 a.m. after the crash involving a BMW and tractor-trailer truck, according to Beaufort County Deputy Coroner David Ott.
The wreck occurred in the area of S.C. 170 and Tidewatch Drive, according to the Lance Cpl. Matthew Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
According Southern, the BMW, driven by Roberts, was headed south on S.C. 170 and turned left onto Tidewatch Drive in front of a northbound Freighliner tractor trailer. The tractor trailer struck the BMW, fatally injuring Roberts, Southern said.
The Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck and Roberts’ body will be sent to the Medical University of South Carolina for an autopsy.
