Summer brings opportunities to explore the Lowcountry's outdoors offerings. Here are some examples:
Birding at Pinckney Island, 7:30-9:30 a.m. Led by an experienced bird watcher from the Coastal Discovery Museum around Pinckney Island Wildlife Refuge. With a combination of habitats including Salt Marsh, Maritime Forest and open fields, this site allows for participants to see many different species of birds. Depending on the time of year, diverse birds can be found including: Summer Tanager, Eastern Kingbird, Painted Bunting, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Egrets, Herons and many, many others. $12.00 per person (age 12 and older only). Tuesdays and Thursdays: The Coastal Discovery Museum will host “Blue Crab Discovery” starting at 9:30 a.m. As you visit the Museum on Jarvis Creek, you will learn about the life cycle and importance of the Atlantic Blue Crab. Participants harvest, cook, pick and taste their catch. The program is $15 for adults, $10 for children (ages 4-12). Tuesdays: The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn announces a new summer program, Camp Dig It! This interactive family program led by a professional archaeologist, will introduce you to the field of archaeology.
