BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

The annual Miss Battery Creek High School Pageant will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 in the John J. McVey Performing Arts Center. Elizabeth Ford, Jasmine Middleton, La'Schirrae Morral and Tinea Morris will compete. Each contestant has a GPA of 3.0 or better, no disciplinary referrals and three letters of recommendation. They will be judged in six categories: personal interview, opening act, dress for success, talent, evening wear, and question and answer. Admission is $5.
BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL
Cheerleaders will host a spirit night 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Chick-fil-A. Proceeds go to the school's athletics department.
The School Improvement Council meets 5:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in the media center.
LADY'S ISLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

MICHAEL C. RILEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Both the elementary school and early childhood center need volunteers to read weekly with students as part of the Rotary Reader program. Volunteers are also needed for a mentoring program. Details: Carol Walters, 843-706-8345
Volunteers are needed for Operation Take Flight, a program for kindergarten students who need help catching up on basics. Volunteers work 20 to 45 minutes one day a week with one or two students.
