An Earth Day celebration 4-7 p.m. April 19 in the Habersham Market Place will feature art created from recycled materials by the Boys & Girls Club, Riverview Charter School, E. C. Montessori School, Shanklin Elementary School and Calvary Baptist Church Christian Academy Homeschoolers Association. Graduate students from the University of South Carolina Art Education Department will judge the artwork. Students from Battery Creek High also will participate, including members of the school's Students Against Destructive Decisions and drama clubs. The school's arts department will paint a mural. BEAUFORT HIGH SCHOOL
The school will host its 37th annual Beaufort Track Classic beginning at 11 a.m. April 6 at the school stadium. Cost is $5 a person. Admission is free for elementary and middle school track athletes wearing their school shirt or track uniform. The event draws athletes from across South Carolina and Georgia. New this year is the inclusion of county elementary and middle school track athletes, who will have the chance to watch their high school heroes in action.

BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL

HOLY TRINITY CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Third-grader Samuel Siler recently graduated from The Young Marines Boot Camp program. The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. Participants learn about Marine Corps history, customs and courtesies, close-order drill, physical fitness, and military rank and structure. After graduating youth have the opportunity to learn new skills, earn rank and work toward ribbons in areas such as leadership, community service, swimming, academic excellence and first aid.
The Easter holiday will run through April 5.
Members of the Parris Island Marine Corps Band will perform at the school at 11 a.m. April 9.

JASPER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
The first-annual Jasper County School District Middle School Spelling Bee was held March 26 in Hardeeville. Students from sixth through eighth grades competed. Sixth-grader Kweli Orr took first place and eighth grader Shakur Furman won second place. Judges included Trish Heichel, Lauren Levin and Robert Young.
