BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL
A number of visual arts students have been honored this spring in a variety of arts exhibits and contests. Chelsea Lynn was awarded second place, and Jayde Little was awarded third place in the Dale Wescott Nature Memorial Photography Contest. Three students won awards in the Beaufort Art Association's 52nd annual exhibit and contest for high school students. Makayla Seale placed second with her crayon etching, and Jewell Bessinger and Marielle Van Vulpen earned honorable mentions with their photography submissions. Sarah Kardohely, Kassidy Block, Ruth Eklund and Cliff Johnson had their photography or artwork selected for publication or display in the River of Words project.
The following French 4 and French 3 students were inducted into the French Honor Society on March 15: James Cheatham, April Singleton, Colby Taylor and Dillon Yates. Each earned an A in French for the first semester and maintained a B average in all other classes while setting good examples by being positive role models.
Town hall meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Learning Center conference room.
No classes Friday in observance of Good Friday, followed by Spring Break the week of April 1.
BEAUFORT HIGH SCHOOL
Recently, 144 of Beaufort High's JAFROTC cadets were promoted to higher rank, with 31 students receiving academic ribbons for all A's and B's in the first semester. In the officer ranks, promoted from major to lieutenant colonel were: Ariel Washington, Curtia Benning and Ashley Reynard (who has received a Navy ROTC scholarship to The Citadel). Also promoted from major was cadet Lt. Col. Shykeem Gardner, deputy commander; and from lieutenant colonel, cadet Col. Andrew Woods, group commander. Andrew also recently received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy West Point.
BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL
The School Improvement Council meeting will be today in the media center.
Students are raising money for the American Heart Association by gathering donations for the schools Hoops-for-Heart event Thursday. All donations are due by the end of school today.
HOLY TRINITY CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
The Easter holiday will run March 29 to April 5.
S.C. GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES

WHALE BRANCH EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL
Michelle Gee was selected for a trip to Mercy College's International Relations and Diplomacy Summer Program in New York City. Gee will attend July 15-19, where she will participate in discussions and guest lectures with diplomacy experts addressing the world's current events. She also will visit the United Nations and country missions.
