Gazette Class Notes for Nov. 22

BEAUFORT COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT

  • The school district will be closed Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • The district will host its first Educational Choice Showcase from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 6 at Okatie Elementary School. Parents and students will have the opportunity to preview and receive information about arts-infused, STEMS and International Baccalaureate programs, as well as programs that let students earn college credits while in high school.
  • BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

  • The following Battery Creek International Baccalaureate junior full diploma program students recently received recognition at an annual pinning ceremony: Sydney Albert, Benjamin Barbosa, Quantaya Brown, Jasmine Calixte, Gregory Gischia, Nathaniel Kasper-Little, Katelynn Mathis, David Ratliff, Valerie Reed and Joshua William. Keynote speaker Gwen Clare discussed the importance of being prepared for the global economy.
  • Battery Creek is collecting coats for the Furniture Warehouse Coat Drive through Dec. 1. This year's goal is to collect 1,500 new or gently used coats for all ages. They can be dropped off in Mrs. Grooms' office.
  • BEAUFORT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • Beaufort Elementary and the AMES Academy are serving as a Toys for Tots drop-off location. New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off in room 54.
  • BEAUFORTMIDDLE SCHOOL

  • The School Improvement Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the media center.
  • LADY'S ISLAND MIDDLE AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS

  • There will be no school Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • MOSSY OAKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • There will be no school Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • The science fair will be Dec. 2.
  • Progress reports will be sent home Dec. 3.
  • ST. PETER CATHOLIC SCHOOL

  • There will be no school Wednesday through Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
  • The SCISA One Act Play competition will be today in Orangeburg.
  • Progress reports will be distributed Tuesday.
  • A PTO meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Walsh-Palmetto Room. Topics include the science fair, ITBS scores and fundraising updates.

  • WHALE BRANCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • Parents at both Whale Branch Elementary School and James J. Davis Early Childhood Center participated in Parent University, a three-week course focused on discipline, parent-teacher relationships and increasing academic success. The 54 parents who completed the course graduated Nov. 10. Another class will begin in January.
  • Students recently participated in Book Buddy Days, which cultivates a love for reading. Students from Whale Branch read aloud to younger students from Davis. This opportunity gives older students time to practice the reading skills and strategies they learn.
