Pedestrian killed on SC 170 identified as Okatie woman

An Okatie woman has been identified as the pedestrian struck and killed by a car on S.C. 170 near Snake Road late Monday night.

Ivory Newell-Maze, 28, was identified by Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen on Tuesday.

She died at Beaufort Memorial Hospital after she attempted to walk across the road around 10:20 p.m., according to Lance Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Newell-Maze was struck by a 2015 Toyota four-door driven by Daryl Mainar of Bluffton, who was traveling south. No charges have been filed against him, Patrol Lance Cpl. Matthew Southern said on Tuesday. Mainar was not injured.
