A Bluffton woman has been charged for allegedly driving under the influence after a local man was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Virginia this week.
Peggy S. Ford, 63, of Bluffton, was charged with a DUI Thursday for the crash that occurred early Tuesday morning in Amherst County, Va., according to WDBJ7.
The News Advance reports that George H. Bridges, 48, of Bluffton, was killed in the crash, according to Virginia State Police.
Bridges was a passenger in the box truck driven by Ford that crashed, the News Advance reported. The truck, which was loaded with furniture, ran off the left side of the road and overturned on U.S. 29, according to state police.
Ford was wearing a seat belt, while Bridges was not wearing a seat belt, according to police reports.
As of Thursday, Ford was being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Amherst County, WDBJ7 reports. The crash is still under investigation.
