Fire, rescue crews respond to 2 incidents in Burton Saturday

A car fire and a two-vehicle vehicle crash in Burton kept fire crews busy Saturday.

Firefighters with the Burton Fire District responded to a car fire just before 1 a.m. Saturday on Trask Parkway, in an area near Shanklin Road, district spokesman Dan Byrne said in a statement.

Crews arriving on the scene found the sedan fully engulfed in flames in the road’s center median, he said. Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, but the car was totally consumed. The car’s driver was on the scene, but no one was injured, Byrne said.

Trask Parkway was blocked for more than an hour while crews worked.

The second incident involving a car and a pickup truck occurred just before 1 p.m. at Laurel Bay and Stanley Farm roads, Byrne said.

The driver of the truck became trapped and needed to be rescued from the vehicle, Byrne said.

The driver of the truck and and an occupant in the car were taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Laurel Bay Road was closed for more than 30 minutes while emergency crews worked.
